warming up!

It has been a while since I wrote my poker blog, so let me just wrap up the action in 2007 so far:

I have been very busy with organizing and running my second version of the WSOP Challenge, where one player goes to Las Vegas with the entry paid for to the Main Event and som espending cash. Last year's tournament was quite a success, except for the fact that the winner ended up not going!! Everybody else in Tamarindo were very isappointed, and I had honestly not taken this situation into account. The winner - Linda Verberne - ended up selling her seat to another player in Vegas.

This time around I have established another rule: If the winner does not show up in Vegas to register at the Main Event the money ($10,000) will be transferred to next year's WSOP Challenge prize pool! Saa kan de laere det, kan de!

The WSOP Challenge tournament ends with a Final Table April 28th, with participation of 10 players - or rather 10 starting stacks. The rule is that a player can get two seats by winning a second seat at one of the 10 Qualifiers, thus virtually knocking out another player before the Final Table takes off. Last year two players managed to start with a double stack and we were 8 players at the Final Table. Nevertheless, the double stacks were out of the tournament in 8th and 6th place!?

This year we have only one double stack so far: Me! I earned the first seat by buying it from last year's winner Linda. She won Qualifier 1 heads-up against me, but decided she again would not be able to go to Vegas, so I got the seat with a discount. Obviously I then won the following qualifier, giving me a second seat, and it looks like I will be keeping it, nobody has come forward with any decent offer to purchase it.

The other players who have qualified are all good local players, and I am looking forward to playing the Final Table - surely it will be the best poker event of the year, with space and time for deeper play than the usual one-night events we are used to here. Other than that I have again become involved in running the TPT, this time in a team, and it has had its ups and downs, but generally it is working fine. I hosted an Omaha event, which did not attract many players, but the ones who did play enjoyed the game very much. We have introduced "quarterly Specials", and the next one will be 7-card Stud in May, should be fun! I managed to win a TPT event myself and I am in contention for both the TPT overall and the new Player of the Year contest that I invented. The POY awards the players who play not only the TPT but also the other events around town with a simply points system based on attendance, buy-in level and length of the tournament.

Stay tuned for more poker news within the next couple of weeks
